Losing weight can be a frustrating thing, especially if you’re one of the millions that really doesn’t know where to start. Getting on multiple forums and answer boards that are related to fitness, I’ve noticed that a lot of people really are focusing on the wrong things.

It’s not important what type of exercise equipment is being used, but rather the quality of the exercise that’s being done on that equipment.

Can you lose weight on a treadmill? Absolutely!

Can you lose weight on a bike? Absolutely!

Can you lose weight on a trampoline? Absolutely!

You get my drift?

Truth is that you can lose weight using just about any piece of equipment known to mankind. If you focus on a couple of key factors as it pertains to weight loss, then you’ll be well ahead of the crowd.

Here are a couple of things to take into account when it comes to exercise and losing weight:

1. Focus on Total Calories Burned: Again it’s not important what type of equipment you’re using. If you focus on the total calories you’re burning in your workout, as long as you burn more than you take in, you will most definitely lose weight.

2. Focus on The Intensity of Your Exercise: Think about it this way… if you’re doing low intensity exercise on the treadmill, then you’ll need to increase the amount of time you’re doing the exercise in order to hit your maximum calorie burn.  On the other hand, if you’re doing high intensity work such as running on the treadmill, or riding a bike uphill then you’ll be burning more calories in a shorter amount of time.  It really is that simple, and there is no need to make it more complicated than that.

It’s really not important how you get there, as long as you do.  Another factor to take into account is that the more intense your workout, the more calories you’ll burn throughout the day in a resting state.

3. Focus on Maintaining Balance: Maybe one day you want to jog to lose weight on a treadmill, and another day you’d rather walk.  Truth is both will work equally as well, as long as you’re burning more calories than you’re taking in. As long as you remember the key is:

Intensity x Duration = Success!

Well there you have it, so if you’re curious weather or not you can lose weight on a treadmill, or any other exercise for that matter, you absolutely can if you burn more calories than you bring in.  This is a long term commitment that you’ll need to make to yourself, but it’s certainly attainable to lose weight if you follow these simple steps.
